I was looking on LA and really wanted a Velvet Multicolor Wrasse ( Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus) they had on divers den for 130$ and before i spend that kind of money on a fish ( have spent more:p ) i want to make sure they are compatible with other small wrasses like flashers, mysteries, and carpenters? couldnt find much on them!! I have a 120 gallon reef with the following fish
1-mystery wrasse
1-flasher wrasse hybrid
1-hippo tang
1- yellow eyed tang
1-copperbanded
any info on these species would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS

I had one for about a year and a half. Ended up selling it. Sold it for two reasons -- got tired of getting it out of my overflow, and (( the main reason )) is that it was getting too aggressive. Was fine for the first year, but for the last half year it was always chasing my Potter's angel, and going after my pink skunk pair.

That mystery wrasse will prolly eventually kill your flasher and the new faerie...

Mine was mean to other fairy wrasses and to anthias, so it had to go.

Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus can be aggressive towards other fairy/flasher wrasses.

In addition to the above, and not to rain on your parade, this species tends to fade without the presence of females. I kept one that while it maintained its basic colors, the colors lost their vibrancy and intensity, especially the yellow stripe.

I've never had one but have heard they can be aggressive as well.

This WAY too much for this fish. They are $ 40.00 to $ 50.00 at my lfs and also fairly common in the trade. I have one and like him a lot. He actually lets me pet him. Holds his color well. I did try to add another which I thought was a female, but was apparently a male on his way up and my guy destroyed him.

^I'd like to know which store you shop at that has the males for 40-50. the females are cheap, but males are significantly more. I've got a male with 2 females in my 75. doing well so far and thankfully not bothering anything. my tomini actually chases the male periodically

I've got one in quarentine now with a carpenters flasher. The carpenter punks out the velvet with his flashing so the velvet spends most of the day hiding in the pvc. lol
