Ok, first i was battling my first bought of hair algea. I figured out my ro unit was malfunctioning and that was fixed. After some water changes my phosphates r down to under.5ppm.

I now have brown slime (possibly diatomes) growing on top of everything. Still have some hair algea that refuses to die at top of tank that gets covered in brown slime and bubbles. The combination of the two is slowly killing some of my sps.

I,ve done water changes to lower my phosphates, used algeafix to try to kill them, and 2 days ago did a half dose of redslime remover. all with little effect.

I need help! anyone have any suggestions?

you can try mexican turbo snails. mine annihilated my hair algae and help with the cyano (brown)

I've had a similiar problem post hurricane. I seem to be winning at the moment. the slime in my tank appeared when I neglected my tank & let it get a little out of whack. I had a bad bryopsis outbreak then the slime. I lost a nice acro that I've had for three yrs. Here's what I've done so far; tweeked my skimmer (mesh mod), increased flow, started getting my water changes on a reg. schedule, added phosban reactor with phosban, & started elevating Mg level to combat bryopsis. I mentioned this in chem forum & randy holmes farley mentioned that most slimes are bacterial related. are you dosing anything.

I'd focus on getting my phosphates as close to 0 as possible. General consensus is that phosphates in a reef should be under .05 ppm.

A phosban reactor with any GFO phosphate reducer would be an excellent start.

Have been running a new gfo and charcoal reactor for 3 weeks. did a half dose of red slime remover (all i had left) 2 days ago. turned off charcoal reactor at that time also. Uped my flow which was already pretty good.

Probably gonna get something for cyano and treat it again with full dose. any recomendations on anything else or kind to get?

You didn't mention the brand of red-slime remover that you've been using, but I've read a few recommendations for a product called "Chemi-clean".

I used to use a product called "Marine Tank Clarifier" by Coralife to keep my slime algae under control with a previous tank.
