I had a cap like that. We all called it the green apple cap. Ridiculously bright green. But not uncommon either :-/

Looks more like "olive green cap with lots of ambition"

Really, I think many of the ORA are great propagative pieces for beginners to intermediate reefkeepers; they definitely serve a purpose. Think about the return that a business needs to get when they have an operation the size they do.

I personally thought that the message boards overly hyped up the pieces that were being released. I am sure others will argue, but if I had to pick my favorite 20-30 acroporas and montiporas, I would have a hard time adding one to the list.

Sure, they have hit on a couple really nice pieces, but I think it has to deal with ones expectations of what they are releasing.

The pearlberry started this hype that's the only ORA coral that makes my top 30, the borealis is nice also.

Who will they name this one after? Thats the only way they are going to sell it. Aside from you out there that think because it has ORA in front of it, its rare....

Some people buy ORA corals because they seem to be hardy. I've never heard of anyone calling ORA corals rare.

Well said!

Thanks. There for awhile, I stopped coming to the SPS forum because every other thread was about an ORA piece or a "show me your ORA frag" :p

I do still have a super bright green cap in my tank, its the old school LE Montipora aquituberculata; now that thing is bright

I've been waiting a long time to pay 60 for a green cap. Been able to get them for 10 for years.. Well worth the wait lol

I just dont see the point in ora selling them seance most local reef clubs have members that are more than willing to just give frags away to any reefer of green/red/orange montipora caps.

Not everyone has local clubs that has a lot of SPS keepers. If there are some keepers some might not have great success with keeping colors up. I depend greatly on ORA stuff from a local store. Remember that not everyone lives in a great place to reef.

2 green caps in a row, though? I'm starting to have "Joe the Coral" flashbacks, although that one is very nice. My prediction for next month: Orange Montipora Capricornis ( I hope I'm wrong, because I really do like ORA's stuff)

agree. My aquituberculata is the brightest green coral I've seen. Everyone comments on it.

FWIW I personally think that pic was taken with the camera flash on. Mine looked the same with a camera flash.

Yeah I guess there is going to be a few people that cant get stuff like this local. I just dont think that ORA was trying to market this coral to just the people that live in the sticks, or the other side of the earth so to speak.

I'm waiting for the fancy name AND the story about how they got these piece from a reefer in Germany 6 years ago and have been propagating it...

(no ORA love here :D)... it doesn't look bad for a green cap though, maybe rusty red polyps? But that better be some huge frag to be $60 (if that's what the asking will be)

Agreed, that coral glows in the dark :eek1:

I think the red planet and german green w/ blue acro(not digi) are both nice corals...

ORA got lucky with a few nice acro releases in a row, so IMO people began expecting more out of ORA than they are able to provide. A green cap... seriously?

If they need a April and May release, maybe we can start a collection and donate them some Orange and Purple as well. :rolleye1:

I will never get used to seeing people on these forums react to monthly "releases" of "brand name corals" the way nerds respond to new Apple products.
