Will drying out rock kill all the aiptasia? The reason I am asking is that I have about 300 lbs of former live rock that has been drying out on my back porch that I would like to sell. The tank it came from was infected with aiptasia. It's very nice Marshall Island rock, but I would hate to stick some other aquarist with an aiptasia problem!!

Thanks
Don

I think it would, it would also kill the whole rock... By the time it dries out, it will be basically base rock... Have you tried peppermint shrimp or a copperbanded butterfly??? i dont recomend the syringe. They will keep multiplying and you would have to stick your hand in your tank every other day...

Yeah, wave good-bye to your nice Marshall Island rock:( The Aiptasia will be dead and your rock will be basically worthless.:(

ya a few peppermint shrimp would have cleared that up. plus I walk into some LFS and they have aiptasia all over their live rock.

Actually, the rock is from a 225 gallon tank that I disassembled and subsequently sold. I don't want to dispose of the rock when someone might be able to use it for base rock. I had not sold it as live rock because of the aiptasia problem, so I just let it dry out. Thanks for your replies. I kind of thought drying it out would kill this demon.

Odds are there are going to be alot of organics in that rock. If you plan on keeping it ya might as well start 'cooking' it to clear out the organics.

i had alot aptasia in my tank. i put 30 peppermint shrimp in there and they took care of almost all of it. The bigger ones that they didnt get i used Joes Juice and now they are all gone.
