I am setting up a 210g tank (72x24x29), I was going to order 3 ice cap 400w DE ballast/pendant/bulbs package deals. The very large online vender is saying that 400w DE are not a good idea. He says that mogul are a better idea because 400w DE are hard to come by and have a lot less options. I understand that at this time he is right, but don't you think that DE are the way of the future? That Mogul lights will one day be hard to get? Looking at 250w bulbs, they are almost all DE now. I have also heard that HQI lighting has a much higher PAR output.

I have also had many people say that 3 250w lights are the way to go, but a deep 210g SPS tank? What do you all think? Either way I will have actinic T5's as supplement.

I was going to buy 400W DE HQI but after trying to find places to by bulbs I went with the SE.

IMO, I don't think SE will be phased out. If you look you can still buy many 250 watt SE bulbs.

I bought the lumen bright large pendent SE for my 30"x30"x36" cube and couldn't be happier.

I run reeflux 20K bulb.
