That is a little low. Should be around 3 meq/l.

No. It should be 4-5meq/l = 9-12dkh. there are plenty of buffers available to raise it, but as of now, that is not a suitable level.

According to the table from my Salifert test kit, 4 meq/l = 11.2 KH, and 5.03 meq/l = 14.1.
NSW is 2.5-2.9 meq/l, I keep mine around 3 meq/l

can i use bakingsoda(bicarbonate of soda) to raise my alk without raising my ph as its already 8.4.
I used this (http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/flashcalc.html) reef chemistry calculator to get the amount to raise mine to 3meq/l.in the drop down table it i the only additive i can use to rase alk and not ph ,is this true?
I did google it and it seems to be correct,As a matter of fact it slightly lowers your ph
