If you couldnt obtain SPS for any reason and had to go back to soft coral keeping (nothing wrong with that) would you stop keeping Marines altogether

I wouldn't throw in the towel, but I wouldn't be nearly as captivated by a softie tank.

Yeah I would be happy to only keep softies although I prefer a mixed reef. Long as I get to keep fish though, I am happy. Corals are just decoration to me :)

If I could not have SPS I would not have a salt water tank, would go back to fresh water.

There's a place in my heart for all corals. I would forge ahead with softies. Things certainly would be easier, and power bills reduced.

The only reason I am currently keeping SW is for the SPS. Had an LPS / Softie reef 20 years ago. Liked it, but not enough to keep it. I would stick with my planted FW.

Thats funny! I'm the opposite... I think fish are just janitors in my tank. I just want wrasses for the AEFW and Tangs for the algae..

Some of my favorite corals are softies in fact. I've got a very large Tyree green sarco that I love. I know I could frag it and make a few bux but its just soo pretty I can't bring myself to do it. I've also got a few others that I really like and can't bring myself to get rid of them..

I also like the Dendronephthea's as well but I don't have any. There are a lot of BEAUTIFUL softies out there. I'd have to say I'd keep on!!

no sps=no tank

U give it up but its like women and money they always lure you back.
U try to start a simple softie tank and unequivocally end up with the typical suspects SPS!

i'm currently going through a similar situation.

all of my acros are dead/dying slowly over the last year. no clue as to the cause....seems like I have looked for everything and tried everything........very disheartening to say the least to watch these things die off that I grew out from small frags.

I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about tearing my tank down due to not having any acros.

But realistically, my tank is at the point where I'm not doing any work on it or spending much on it anyways. I think I'm content to letting all my acros die, and then just having a very simple tank full monti's, stylo's and birdsnests.

Once this disease has run its course, I will probably go with only 1 or 2 stags and thats it. and just a few other sps colonies, as well as lps and softies.

I just want to keep a simple tank, with a few large colonies rather than have a tank full of tiny frags for years while trying to start all over again.

Who knows....maybe this is a good thing. lol

I would keep a small LPS/Soft nano and a LARGE FO with angels.

If I could not have SPS I would do a way larger FOWLR. There are so many fish that I want to keep but that pick on (or potentially pick on ) SPS so I'd do the fish I've always wanted

Too funny, Mark! That gets repeated a lot, but feel there's much more to it than that.

I feel the perception of SPS being difficult and the AEFW affliction are the two biggest reasons. This day and age, all the tools are available to keep SPS. The pioneers have laid the groundwork.

I know a lot of people kid themselves that LPS are better looking than SPS, but come on, really? Let's be honest. The only way to fully appreciate the hot LPS right now is in pics. Super macro shots blasted under actinic. If I had mesoscopic vision, I'd be good to go, but I stare at my tank with just my eyes:p

SPS = Unapproachable Women

Most will wine and dine the regular singles circuit, but would never consider talking to the super model. You just gotta MAN up.

The only thing that'll stop me from keeping SPS is an all out ban on domestic keeping. Other than that...no one's taking my card!

We certainly are opposite when it comes to this! ;)

To be honest, I don't care too much if a coral dies compared to loosing a fish. I try very hard not to kill them of course and to actually keep them looking good but I just don't connect with corals like I do with fish. I mean I think they are super cool but they just lack the personality fish have.

I think this is also why I refuse to buy expensive corals but will drop good money on a beautiful fish.
