I have several zoa colonies none of which look very healthy. They don't seem to want to open fully or many at all. I have been trying the vitamin C treatment without success and religiously do water changes. As a test I purchased a new colony and immediately fragged it. I put the largest colony in my tank and 4 small frags in another tank recently stood up. The frags look great. However the zoas in the main tank all look closed up.

The rest of my zoas dont seem to be deteriorating but are certainly not flourishing.

amonnia,phosphates, nitrites, nitrates all zero.

new tank has same parameters but nitrates are slightly elevated.

if they are getting too much flow or too much light they might not open fully on you. Try experimenting with moving them around. I have some that would not open fully if they get a little too much flow to them. Lights doesn't seem to be a big factor to them opening, but flow does.

I have 6 different colonies across my tank at various hieghts and flow. All are behaving similarly.

What exactly is your nitrate? You say 0 at 1st but then "slightly elevated"?

How much VC did you use, how often, for how long?

sorry if I confused you. two tanks. First one that has the problem. Nitrates 0
Second tank was around 10 near as I can tell because it is finishing its cycle. This tank's zoos are opening just fine.

You might want to double that dose & do it 2x/day. What product?

MAybe your OVERSKIMMING? No nutrients in the tank? Are you running it like a SPS tank. Meaning like a ZEO system? NO extra nutrients?
