I got this green and pink coral for 10 dollars!!!!! A lady at the LFS didnt know what she was talking about and priced it wrong. Does anybody know what it is, it has a green body with pink polyps. Looks to me like some kind of acropora

with those strings coming out of the polyps, looks like a millepora, but I am by no means an sps expert, i'd wait for a few more opinions! Nice buy tho!

yea my guess was an acropora millepora or some kind of lemonade, as for the type I cannot seem to find out... It looked similar to a tubs' lemonade, but doesnt look totally the same.

Don't get too excited yet, but you may have a piece of ORA Red Planet... Either way, looks like some sort of milli, time will only tell as the frag encrusts and branches. You got a great deal regardless, nice score!

looks like you got it, I googled some pictures of ORA red planets and it looks just like it. Why do you say dont get too excited yet?

Because if you want it shipped, at least 60-70 bucks.... For ten dollars, you scored.... You will see a tabling type growth if it is the deal, and either way, I guess you should go ahead and be excited....lol

Nice score. Looks like an ORA plug. They use the black plugs like that. If you look close, it looks like the words 'ORA' is getting encrusted over. I would guess Red Planet. Nice find for $10, as they tend to go for $70+.

Yep!!!
I got the ID, but never even looked at the plug...lol.. Most certainly an ORA, based on the plug. Keep in mind the coral is on the brownish side, based on the pics... But overall, I think you may have the RP.

well its a new coral that was brought from the local lfs to our 10000k 400 watt bulbs just yesterday, so it will probably look a tad brownish for a little bit. It is a new tank so if you have any suggestions on getting more color, let me know.

Looks like cyano to me :eek2:

I like that acro you have there too.......

Might want to look into what is causing the cyano. High nuetrients, low flow, etc.

Happy reefing

oh yea, the cyano was a result of a copper problem that set the whole tank off balance, that is almost the last rock with cyano on it. We are slowly but surely getting rid of it. Nitrates all read 0 although we do feed pretty heavily. We have a new sump and will be adding cheato asap. that rock has a koralia2 pointed straight at it from about 6 inches away.

There is a thread about the Red Planet on the SPS forum right now, and it suggests that the coral likes lower light. If you are 400w 10K, I would make sure that it is in a lower light section of othe tank. There is talk that too much light makes the Red Planet pale out, and lose its green.

Glad to hear you are beating it.

Keep up the great work, nice coral BTW.

thanks, would putting at the bottom of the tank work for it or does it like to be sheltered and in the shade? It has its polyps extended nicely if that means anything.
