After 2 years of keeping my 210G tank I decided it was best to take it down and get something more reasonable. Work was keeping me too busy to really take care of such a massive aquarium, the wood on the cabinet was absorbing too much humidity and basically I just couldnt handle it. I succumbed and thought it best to downsize. So I went out and got a smaller 100G tank, although i feel its quite a shame to have gotten rid of it.

Here is my favorite picture of the 210G when i was actively watching over it

the new tank the night it was received, my 55G on the left and the 210G on the right.

Stand in place opposite the 210G, the 55G to the left.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/shullat/DSC_0011.jpg

transfered 50G of new SW to it and around 40G from the 210G.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/shullat/DSC_0024-1.jpg

All the equipment I was using on the 210G is used on the 100G, with one exception, I sold off my calcium reactor.

With the tank in place I drove out and got live sand from the beach, although i messed up and picked up something more like silt, tank was turned into a salty mud bath. Had to start again.

I also had to resize my bresslein pendant to fit the tank as it was 161cm long and the new tank is 150cm. Specs were 3*250W 14,000k + 4x36W compacts, after modification it now had only 2 halides instead of three.

Removing 5 cm from left and right of the splash guard. I had no steel blades for my electric saw at first so i was doing it manually, pain the a**, went out and bought one straight away.

Redid the wiring of all the lights as i removed one of the halides and changed the the positions of the compacts. half the weight of that god damn contraption are those bllasts of course. I went out looking for electronic ballasts but they don't have 250W ballasts available here.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/shullat/DSC_0035-1.jpg

All done and plooped on top of the tank to check the lenght, perfect... from afar :)

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/shullat/DSC_0036-1.jpg

Drilled the ceiling, which is just 1cm gypsum board and got two of those anchor bolts that plop open, max load 45 kg per bolt, so no problem there. Ceiling has held for 3 days so i keep my fingers crossed that nothing will happen

the overflow is in place also but not hooked up as I havent received the sump yet, although it should be ready today or tomorrow at the latest. the skimmer is an ATI Bubblemaster 300, i must say it is an excellent skimmer, although i do have issues when restarting the pumps. the return pump is a tunze.

One of the drivers on my Tunze 6101 is fried, so have to get a replacement. Will order it this week, although waiting for Roger on the tunze forum to confirm.

Hope you like it :)

Thanks,

Yeah i got rid of the slime, had to drive back out 70 km out of town to go and get sand from a cleaner location. Strange how the beaches can be so dirty here when barely anyone actually swims, but with one garbage can every 500m it's no surprise everything ends up in the sand.

Skimmer is currently having its vinegar bath, still no news on the sump. I'll pass by the shop tomorrow and see what's up.

I'm also waiting for a friend of mine to get me a racoon butterfly and a male anthias with a couple of females. I'm not to keen on having the butterfly as some people complain about them nipping but I have an aptasia problem that I hope the butterfly can remedy.

I added a couple of frags today, will put up some pictures when the sump is completed.

I already gave the tank its first dose of prodibio as I was using it in the big tank polyp extension on eveything :)

Looks great so far. I'm curious, though, did you get the 100 gallon new? If so, why did you opt for one without any built-in overflows?

I like the size and the feel of it the way it is now. I collected my sand locally as well (eastern long island). I had no issues with it though, I got it in december so there had been almost no activity there for several months, no garbage in it. I really like the look of the tank though. The pendant looks great.

Very nice! I love the less live rock look. More room for coral growth.

Is that aptasia all over the top left rock? If so, you should pull it out and cook/clean that rock.

Im afraid to put more live rock as it will crowd up the space :) Already got a few frags as you can see :)

Thanks, given the fact that its hard to findany decently stocked LFS we have to go simple.

They aren't available here, everything we get in temrs of equipment has to be ordered abroad and all the tanks they have are for fresh water. I liked this one becaseu of the build quality and the fact that the cabinet is entirely made of plastic, no real issues with moisture now.

Thank you... i'm actually really happy with the pendant now that i hung it from the ceiling, beofre i had it dangling off a brace and it looked bad, effective but just bad :)

Oooops they have been spotted. Yes it is aptasia but i can't cook it, that piece of rock has 3 different kinds of mushrooms encrusted on it now, zoanthids, palythoa, and others...that's why i'll see if the butterfly can clean it up.

Ah i received the sump this morning, god it's tiny but it can handle the extra volume of water in case of a shutdown so it's fine. I got three cuts because of the way the glass was cut but at least it's not leaking. if you thought the tank was simple this is even more. one tube from the overflow, another going back through the return pump that's it. Have to make some adjustments as i feel the return pump settings are too low.

Having problems with the tunze osmolator that keeps on giving me a pump on. it only started happening when i plugged in the skimmer. the skimmers elctrical cables are running through the same hole as the osmolators sensor cables, maybe some electrical disturbance or something like that. Anybody know?

I am noticing in this hobby. You are either getting bigger or smaller. It seems like it is grow Grow GROW. OOPS! to much take it down. start again. repeat cycle. I like the look of less rock. Doesn't look so crowded.

No additions for at least a month unless something really catches my eye.

Have 3 issues I need to overcome:
- need to move the osmolator wiring as the electrical cables are interfering with the sensor
- need to get the AC fixed in the tank room, the water temp is quite high. Having a fan blowing accross the surface of the water can generally help by how many degrees?
- having alot of microbubbles of increasing the flow of the return pump and I do not know how to fix that. Can anybody help on this??

ohhh my, it's been a long time since i posted anything, but its quite simple. Ordering new bulbs, zeovit reactor, filter socks and new driver for the Tunze. Thankfully, i have ten days off in a few days to take care of the tank. Ah, and designing a new sump, this time found someone to do it in acrylic.

Cleaned up the tank, new sand bed, NSW refill, added some live rock and redid the aquascape, although need more live rock on the left hand side of the tank. Here is an FTS from yesterday.

Next step will be to collect some more live rock and add it to the left hand side of the tank. Need to provide the sketch to one of our suppliers to manufacture the sump, slightly bigger than the current one, and will incorporate an area for a refugium. Should be receiving filter socks, ph probe and driver for one of powerheads that's been down for quite a while. I will than setup the calcium reactor once again.
