I have a 200 extreme. I'm running the pinwheel on the pump. my pump is noisy noisy when running upright position. I run it sideways so it will run alot quieter, it has been running over a month now and still noisy when I change back to upright position. it pulls less air on its side -we all know that. so my question is if I would use the mesh wheel and run it on its side would it perform as well as a pump runnig in the upright position with pw? thanx in advance for any input.

The mesh will pull more air than the pinwheel will.

Here is the configuration I would use on the skimmers:

MSX160 - pinwheel
MSX200 - meshwheel
MSX250 - pinwheels
MSX300 - meshwheels

All of the skimmers will certainly work using pinwheels only, but the MSX200 and the MSX300 can take advantage of the extra air draw that a meshwheel will give.

thanx Rob. one thing I forgot to mention is-the pump gets quiet fot a little while if you briefly pinch the air hose shut, resricting the air flow. I wonder if more air flow from the mesh will make the pump start growling again even with pump tilted on its side.

How long has the skimmer been running in your system? I know it sounds crazy, but there is a break-in that these pumps go through, then they quiet down. Another thing to check, remove the pump, disassemble it, ensure there are no foreign items in the pump, make sure the mesh is trimmed evenly.

been running a little over a month. after we typed back and forth today I messed with the pump. you probably won't believe this cause I don't but I removed the pump started to rotate the volute to take it apart to put on the mesh wheel and said I'll leave well enough alone . I cranked down on the adapter and put it back on the skimmer (upright) and wala so far so good. I think if it runs quiet for a week, maybe I'll try to put on the mesh wheel. thanx again so much.

well Rob-I guess this pump is just meant to run sideways. less than 48hrs and it started growling again. what can I do?
