So I have several infected frags and colonies I recently purchased Im going to start treating today they are all in QT.. One is a colony on a 8lb piece of LR..
so the directions on zoaid/coralpedia
say
1 cup of ro
1 packet of furan
1 cup of tank water
Im going to need to have at least a gallon of water in the bucket to treat so Im assuming I will need to increase the dosage? What would you recomend increasing packet wise to.. I have a box of furan.
Im hoping I can treat for the full tme with one box but any advise would be great.

Dan,
I don't honestly follow that to heart. I use a 5 gallon bucket. Since I take all the frags and place all of them there. Trial and error for me. I used to use 2-3 capsuls but now since the packaging design has changed and don't know if the amount and product stregnth has changed as well.

I say do a couple polyps or frags to see how they react to the 2 packet med. and the time of dip. Some react real bad and just melt after placing them in your recovery tank or main tank. Ampipods see this weakness and just eat them.

Ok I'll try one of the frags I can care less about first..=)

OH yeah I've noticed people eaters don't react that well to them. Some just look like turd for a while but some do melt. Just monitor them well. Also try to do the VitaC treament from Pufferpunks thread. I've done this for a couple of weeks and the large frag that had a lot of pox is now all gone with out furan dipping. I'm still fighting a melting issue with one hot salmon pink paly.

Ok So I'm pretty confident on this now.. all of the zoa frags that were previously opened up are already opening back up after just a few minutes in QT.. I think Im going to go ahead and treat my large colony of Bamm Bamms and the large piece of LR..

I put 1 week break between 2-3 treaments each week. I did this for 6 weeks. 1 week ( 3treatments then 1 week rest )

Here is the article. http://www.zoaid.com/articles004.php I just did this about 3 weeks ago and it works! I had a small frag and a 2" colony with pox.
I did not even treat them in a 5 g. I placed both pieces in small tupperware and added half a bag for 15 mins each time. The zoa pox are now gone, lost a few zoas but both pieces are now back in my tank and open.

Hello All,
I did a search for zoapox and furan-2, and that's how I ended up here.
It looks like it's my turn to treat for this. My question is: Did everyone mix-up a new batch of furan each day or can I re-use the same batch for all three days?
Thanks,
Pufferpunk

Bamm Bamm, Here ya go:
Dosing Vitamin C Chart
Use this product:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=-7152293197697039798
$5 0ff coupon code: LUL789 (always good for first purchase).
To figure out how much to use, decide if you want to simply improve coral growth, spread, and color. If so, then you should dose around 5 ppm twice daily. If you are having problems with coral or fish health, dose up to around 30 ppm twice daily.
Calculate the total net number of gallons in your tank (minus rocks, sand, etc). Enter that number here ______.
You will now need to do a little math. The amounts below are for 100 gallons of water so if you have 50 net gallons, cut the amounts shown below in half etc.
Dosing amounts using Iherb product:
1/4 tsp=1112 mg.
For every 100 gallons:
5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC
After you have figured out how much you want to dose at each dosing, enter that number here _____. This is your dose to be used twice a day.
Notes:
*Be sure your pH and alk are within normal reef limits before starting. Adjust if needed. Monitor weekly.
*Shoot for a ppm of around 5 if only dosing for improved coral growth, coloration, and spread. Shoot for higher amounts up to 30 ppm if you are having melting zoas or closed zoas and look for the causes of your problems as you dose. Check for high nitrates, pests, zoa pox, predators, and unstable water conditions.
*Dose low amounts and increase the amount slowly over the course of a few days to a couple weeks.
*Do not dose at high levels (>10ppm), if you don’t have a skimmer! Especially on a nano tank.
* If you notice an algae bloom or increased skim on your glass then cut back by half until it disappears.
* Watch your skimmer, it will start to skim more.
* Dose the amount twice a day in a fast moving area of your sump or overflow. You may dilute the vitamin c in ro/di water for a minute then pour into my overflow. If adding to sump, try and add the vitamin c after filtration such as skimmers and reactors.
* If you have a question, ask here. I check VC threads daily.
* The instructions in this guide and throughout this thread are based on using pure Sodium Ascorbate, not vitamin c pills and other non-buffered forms of vitamin c.
Be sure to take some "before" pics!

For me, I don't re-use. I mix up a new batch. Fear of having lingering things in that water. It's kinda like having a terrible cold, after your done with that cold, you don't want to be sleeping in that same bedsheet would you?
Reminds me I need to do a 2nd trip of dip on my Jap.Deepwater colonies today.

Yeah I used new furan everyday.. I've since actually eradicated the zoapox.. But I have a fish that ate about 100-150zoas while I was on vacation so now I no longer have any in my main display tank

Doing the treatment now as well. I bought a couple zoa colonies off a guy in my local club. One of them had zoapox. Somehow I must have gotten a drop of water from my QT into my display. Now just about all my zoas have pox. Ugh. Not fun dipping 20+ frags and colonies.
I use 1 packet in a gallon ziplock of tank water for 20min. Obviously 20+ frags/colonies don't fit into a gallon ziplock, so i pack it full and let it float for 20 min to keep the temp up. Then i remove them, rinse them off and back into QT. Then i take the next group in the same ziplock for 20min. Rinse and repeat. After they have all been dipped i discard the water, rinse the bag and let it dry for the next day.
This is the second round i've had with zoa pox. I'm glad its one of the easier things to beat.
Interestingly i have a small colony of micromussa that has been dying back. Its gone from 25 polyps down to about 10 in 4 months. I've dipped in everything under the sun...except Furan2. On sunday i added it to the zoas being dipped. So far i think the recession has stopped. Can't be 100% sure yet, but the areas that were receeding had a white mucus attached the micro's flesh and that mucus has a bunch of sand particles in it. I don't see the mucus yet so i'm thinking positive here. Whats really really odd is there is no sand in my QT, but i've scrapped off a good 1/4 cup of sand from this colony since it began going down hill. Thats for another thread i suppose
