I have been enjoying the incidental introduction of this stuff. As was accurately assessed by some of you guys, it has a short lifesplan (about 3 months) My question is, will this stuff reproduce asexually and continue a liniage in my tank? I'll be sad if this stuff stops popping up every so often.

Nice avatar! Did you catch that?... on the fly? I would be stoked to catch a Tarpon, they look like a blast! I was watching a video at my local fishing store last week, and they were tracking down these mini schools of HUGE Tarpon and hammering them on the fly.....sweeeet!

yes I caught that tarpon in the keys a couple years ago. It was one of 9 I landed that day. Flyfishing is and always will be my first passion...well behind my family...

Its hard to say what my favorite fish to chase with a fly rod....
1. roosterfish off the beach in mexico
2. tarpon, anywhere.
3. coho in the salt, up your way :)
anyway, this is off topic, sorry for the tangent. ;)

anyway, this is off topic, sorry for the tangent. ;) No need to apologize, this is your thread, just turn this one into the flyfishing thread!:) Wow,9 in one day, that's wicked! I live right by the Fraser River and Coho season is my favorite time. I've never caught one from the ocean but,it's pretty fun to fish the tributaries that flow into the Fraser. I got a buddy who has a cabin in Birch Bay, WA, last year we were crabbing there and we saw a huge shoal of Coho feeding on needlefish just off the point, I want to go back this year and get in on that! Right now it's Steelhead season....fish on!

uh oh. Now you got me talking fishin ;)

I live a few minutes from the rogue river in southern oregon. Steelhead are my go-to fish when im not chasing more exotic stuff. I have had more steelhead in my hand than any one man should have a right to....of course, ours are smaller than yours up there, but theyre great fish amd they behave like trout, making them very "flyfish friendly".
I fished your area a couple years ago. Fished the harrison and vedder. I caught all 5 pacific salmon species. Great area! I loved chilliwack. very nice people.
I fish the east side of vancouver island for coho. We stalk them along shallow beaches where they stage up to push up the rivers. Sometimes from land, sometimes from boat.

I guess since I started the thread I can post non reef pictures??
If its inapropriate, feel free to delete, mods.

Right on, man! That Marlin must've been awesome to fight?!
I would really like to do a Vancouver Island trip and stalk Coho along the beach, sounds like a blast. I'd like to do that this year too. You must have come on an odd year to be able to catch all 5 species, good timing. The Fraser River watershed is phenomenal for Salmon fishing but, Salmon numbers have decreased since the last time you were out, it's getting harder and harder to fish the streams and river systems. Last year Sockeye was only open for 1 day!!! It's still pretty good though. I caught a couple of those chromie late run Chum this January...mint! In October I caught so many Chum it wasn't funny but, not many Coho at all....kind of a bad year for Coho. I managed to land a pretty nice 28 lb. Chinook....it only took me half an hour and a half km downstream!!
I'll be getting up into the interior lakes quite a bit this year, catch some nice Rainbows. Planning another trip up this year? Sorry, I don't know to load any of my pics on here.

Not sure if Ill make it up this year or not. Our anadromous returns have been horrible too. I havnt even gotten my 09 lisence yet! I usually get it Jan 1st. There just hsnt been any reports to get me excited enough. I should just buckle down and do it. I'll never catch anything if I dont go.

That marlin was the first and only marlin I'll ever cast to...way too much work. lol

My buddy Mark caught all 5 species from one spot on the harrison in a one hour span. I mean, he never even moved his feet! PNW grand slam! It was 2005 so there were some pinks that year. Those Chums were a hoot! man do they pull!!!
You should pm me with your email address so we can take this off the forum.

PS Heres another veddor chum, This one jumped over a fallen tree so I thought I was srewed, until he jumped back over it!check out the sea lice!

WOW!!

Id have to say, thats NOT good! Have you seen or heard of it reaching plague proportions in any other systems? Do they do any harm besides absorb nutrients and take up space? How do you remove it?

Thanks for the post!

SeanT, do you have any fish that will eat it? Rendogg says surgeons love it, maybe they would help keep it in check and still allow enough to look good, at least free food for the fish! Jbird69, awsome fishing shots.

They are very hard to rid yourself of once they have a good foothold.
They use calcium in their growth and are seemingly low nutrient tolerable like valonia.

I, personally, have no knowledge of ANY critter that eats it in our tanks.

Is that your personal tank you posted? I saw it referenced on melevs site. He said he had never seen such abundant neomeris in a system before. His comments along with the WWM folks eluded to it being a nice, welcome macro alge that is completely harmless. I personally dont see anywhere in my tank where fields of it are sprouting up. Oddly only on the rock in the picture with my clam. There is a stalk or two in other spots but no colonies. I'll keep my eye on it tho.

Thank you for the input!
