BTW - I get a lot of complaints about ebay and online vendors selling them Orenji's that look bland (still great deals, though). If it can't be traced back to Mike at The Captive Reef, it's not the Orenji. The Orenji should look like the pic in person. Even without actinic (and I never run actinic):D

no, mine is more of a brown base... the polyps are dense enough that it looks almost solid purple from a distance though

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/jakedk5/3-3-09/SDC11298.jpg

you can see it on the left side about 1/3 of the way up in this FTS (just to the right of the birds nest)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/jakedk5/3-3-09/SDC11327.jpg

i'd love to have some of the other "big name" pieces... not for their name, but because they are super cool... i'm pretty much out of room in this tank though... i'm considering a large, all monti cube-ish tank next though... something in the 48x48 range with plating/fingering species towards the bottom and encrusting up high...

another of my favorites is my hispida... for the life of me, i cant get a good pic of it though :(

i'd love to have some of the other "big name" pieces... not for their name, but because they are super cool... i'm pretty much out of room in this tank though... i'm considering a large, all monti cube-ish tank next though... something in the 48x48 range with plating/fingering species towards the bottom and encrusting up high...

another of my favorites is my hispida... for the life of me, i cant get a good pic of it though :(

I think these are approximately the same Cap under different conditions. This pic is of a piece growing under 10k, In my display
the skeleton turns deep green under 12k w/act. It also gets a purple rim.

I remember the vietnamensis. I used to have a large frag of it posted on frags.org. This piece is very similar to the confusa in that it is mainly green based but can generate purple/orange hues at the edges. A very nice monti.

very possible... ive come to the conclusion recently that i need to experiment some with different bulbs... i've always gone for the shallow water look but i think some of my colors suffer because of this sometimes

yeah, my green one shows purple growth tips and the mother colony where i got my frag from is HUGE

iirc, the yellow one shows the orange-ish tips on the mother colony... both of mine are too small to see their full potential though :(

also, i think the vietnamensis plates out more (with fingers growing from the plates) than the confusa, no?

I have gotten fairly frustrated trying to find pictures of montis and only finding people's frag shots.

This hobby has a high turnover and todays market is heavily pushed by people trying to make a dollar or two. Many of us started collecting frags and they do take some time to grow out. Luckily most monti's grow fast. I also like seeing mature pieces, but I have plenty of smaller frags as well.

Now this is another very interesting one I have. I got it as a frag almost 3 years ago. Can't remember what it was. It's shown signs of either Rainbow or Pokerstar like growth and colors. That is, until about 4-5 months ago. The polyp colors started then eventually turn all red with a blue base. I can understand if this was a small frag, but this thing is well over 3" across. Now the base is exhibiting shades of bright green on the vertical growth surfaces. This thing sure has me stumped.

Thanks for the compliment (here is another shot that I think is kinda cool). The True Undata is a very specific coral from Tyree. As others have stated there are lots of other undatas out there (the Idaho Grape is an undata for example). That one happens to be popular because of the coloration and white polyps.

Thank you! :)

I rather like the Green with Red polyps Montipora you posted. Would that happen to be a Chili Pepper Montipora or something slightly different? The only reason I ask is that the polyps seem just a sprig orange.

What does it matter, its better than the both of them. Idk if people notice but is it me or does it have a orange colour polyp core and a yellow outer? THATS INSANE.

Indeed it has orange centers, but more greenish pedals in person.
I have seen this on many Rainbows.
Thanks for the comment.

Nah, that one is just shot under heavy actinics. It has bright white polyps.

Here is a top down. The colors are off because of the actinics again but you can get a sense for its size. Keep in mind my tank is a 260g

Couple of new top downs of one that I had posted earlier. The purple rim is washed out in the pix but very stunning in person. At first I thought it was a danae or verrucosa b/c of the bumpiness but the new growth looks almost undata-like. The contrast in body color is also interesting to boot.

I still think we have the cheapest cost online for a Oregon Tortuosa Frag, $48.00. I'm not positive about this though. We've mainly been selling a whole bunch of frags to wholesalers down in L.A. for the past few years.

I really liked the last montipora you posted pookstreet, I'm a sucker for that vibrant green glow that pops up on corals from time to time. :)

I believe this to be in the pelti family. But it's not the common yellow with blue polyps. I have that one in the tank with this and their colors are different. This coral actually is yellow with a purple polyp.

Awesome monti, is it orange or redish pink?
I have a similar one that is bright orange like the setosa.

Chris, I believe his piece is the setosa. I could be wrong be that's what I'd be putting my money on.

Looks likes a setosa to me as well, and a mighty fine one at that! :)

Sweet, Hugo. The frag you sent me only has the 1/2 colored polyps where the lighting is lower, like along the vertically-growing surfaces. Where it gets full light the polyps are solid blue-purple. Too bad it seems to be a slow grower:(

Any pic of yours Dave?

That has to be the craziest growth on a setosa I have seen!!

I have a orange nodulating cap that looks very similar to that one, but my setosa looks nothing like that one.

I just got the ATL fire polyp undata. It has to be the most awesome piece in his tank right now. It is the opposite of the jedi mind trick undata. It has purple body, with green rim and red polyps. No pictures right now, but a piece worth going in and looking at.

When it was looking it's best the purple/blue body was like no other.
