I have a rusty clamp on one of the tubes in my sump.
Will this cause any problems. I know phosban media is iron rust but I dont know that it is the same kind of rust

i had a rusty clamp in the sump of my mixed reef for over a year and i didn't see any effect on the corals...... i have found that you don't even need a clamp if the hose is connected to a hose barb and you don't have a really powerful pump

GFO (Phosphate Remover)is essentially rust...... don't worry about it.

Why not just replace the clamp? My first stand was iron, and it rusted, too.

Its probably not the end of the world, but I would replace it.

they make plastic hose clamps
Indeed, I'd replace it, and I wouldnt submerge metal clamps in the tank. I agree that the rust isnt an issue, but there are better solutions in almost all cases. Find something plastic, or grab some good zip-ties.

the integrity of the clamp is probably the biggest issue with it.

I agree replace it. It is certainly not pure iron, but some alloy, and things like nickel or chromium can much more toxic than iron if they are being released.

I don't know where this rumor was started that phosban is just rust therefor all rust is fine. This IMO is not the case at all which Randy pointed out, the metal is not pure.
Phosban is processed, rust from a magnet or clamp is not.
Both times I had rusty magnets in my tank my monties had problems.
Zip ties are not a good replacement for clamps, plastic ratchet style clamps are.
