My GFO reactor has been set up for over a year. My lower sponge gets "clogged" every time I use it now. I have cleaned it completely twice now and it still "cloggs up."
Causing the water to only come up in 1 side. The sponge or filter pad rises half way up the reaction chamber and then it starts pushing one side up more than the other and defeats the purpose of even having the thing running. This has ruined about $30.00 worth of media this month.
Without buying a new sponge, can I use GFO without the sponge? Or do I need a filter to make sure there is even flow through the GFO. To me that little filter pad is more nuisence than it does good.
Any thoughts?
If I can help it I would rather not buy a new filter pad just because I think it will keep happening.
