Anyone have supplemental lighting thats NOT actinic?

Hey all,

I dont really dig the actinic look, I just ordered an aquasun bulb to replace one of my actinics. I will leave the other VHO as actinic. Hopefully this will still give me a bluish subdued dawn/dusk but not the intense purple radiative glow of actinic.

I put one of the clamp on fuge lights over my tank last night while the actinics were on, and the color combo looked great. If the aquasun doesnt give me what I want, I think I will just put a few regular incandescent bulbs in my hood to whiten up the actinic period some.

I use moonlight blue led lights, I think they look great but that's only a personal opinion

Over my 58 I have 2*250 20K bulbs, and was running 2*96 of dual actinic PCs. At Xmas I switched out one of the PCs for a 50/50 bulb, I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but it has really filled out the color alot, and very happy with it. And since I run the PCs before/after the MH, it allows me to view the tank better without it being all blue.

Todd thats exactly what I'm looking for. I wasn't sure whether to switch out one of the actinics for a 50-50 or a daylight bulb... obvously i chose daylight, so we'll see how that works out.

Yea, I wasn't sure either. I figured that the 50/50 would give me a fuller look then I had. One day I might try switching out the 50/50 for a full daylight and see if that is even better.

I think you will be happy with it. I am really glad that I did the switch, and was shocked at home much of a difference it made -- thought for sure the metal halides would drown out the 50/50 bulb.

I had my PC's switched to 50/50 for a while. I liked the look, but I switched back because I liked the the dusk/dawn affect you get with all actinics.

I still plan of having a dawn/dusk effect, just with more natural coloration.

Well it's been a while with the aquasun. Swapped out one actinic for the aquasun. It's a pink-whitish bulb. I don't mind it but it could be a lot better. I picked up some used 50-50 and 75-25 bulbs today for free, I'm going to try them out when I get a chance. I dont like the color when the halides are on as much though.

My girlfriends nanocube sprung a leak recently and we got a new biocube. I gutted the 2x 36w 50-50 PCs and stuck them in my canopy yesterday. I'm having a lot of fun with three independent lighting systems all on different timers. Gives me a great dawn/dusk effect. The PCs are helping a lot. I'll have to see what these new VHO bulbs do though.
