Picked up a frag of acans and this was attached. Not to sure what it is? Thanks for any help in advance.

Not a Rhizo, looks like a Fungia

ya it does but its on a 1/4 inch stem and its top plate is mostly soft tissue

Yup- that's exactly what I would expect to see on a young Fungia. When they first settle (or emerge, if developing as an anthocaulus) they grow on a short stalk attached to a hard surface. As they mature, they break away from that stem and live free/unattached.

How could you doubt the word of someone with such a cool avatar who describes himself as a reef dork and uses big words like hydrophilic (water loving)? It's the ones who describe themselves as the bestest ever that you have to watch out for. ;)

Yes. Coral are neat. Fungias start their lives on a stalk. Some clams do a similar thing, discarding their point of attachment when they've grown large enough to be stable on their own.
