I am trying to find out if a MP40 could be used in a wave box like the tunze

The MP40 does its own "wave pulse" thing. Check it out. Why make it more complicated to install?

I played with the controler endlesslly but I couldn't get a good wave going. I probably need two.
So instead I made a quick wavebox (Caseon) using a plastic container. That worked really well.

i have seen waves in bio cube size tanks with vortehs and i have one and got a wave in a 4' tank and also in my 6' tank. small but enough

I don't know, I don't particularly think that "wave" action is necessary, cool perhaps, and a natural thing on the reefs. I think the strong gentle currents (the Thames on a much smaller scale) that gets into all the nooks and crannies is what I am after with the Vortechs. Plus the simple installation, and mobility.
