These fish look awesome and i want one! Just have a couple questions for any of you guys that have/had one. I want to put it into my 75g mixed reef so i dont have enough room for a school (i have 2 true percs, 3 small chromis, and a Flame Angel) or do i? So if ionly get 1, would it still look this nice? http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?did=1&pid=1014&cid=290

I read to keep it looking 'flashy' i would need two females or another male of a different species to compete with. How do the females look? I can't find a pic, but i dont think i would have room for 3 in total in my 75, so what kind of flasher, if i should introduce two, would go well with the McCosker's?

Thanks, Elan

All flashers get along. To get nuptial coloration you will either need a female or a male of a similar species. But they will flash even when feeding. And they do not school or shoal. However, they jump. You will need a covered tank.

Steve, If I get another male, it should be of another species right?
Can you keep 2 males of the same?

so what should i do? Buy two males of different species or does it not really matter and just buy 1?

i have 1 in my tank and it flashes often for me. i dont have any other wrasses in this tank either. so you dont need 2 for it to flash at you. you could keep 2-3 in your tank depending on how much live rock you have for them to hide/graze off of. but you also need to take into account your filtration and if it will be able to handle the extra bioload you will put on them.

My answers are not predicated on biocapacity, I always presume that is adequate when answering a behavioral question. I have kept two males of the same (flasher) species together in a largish tank and there are occasional nonserious spats where they flash. But remember how similar flasher species are; it is not clear that they know who is what. Also, I have males try and interest females of similar species. Fairies are a different ball game, however.
