i recentely purchased a typhoonIII and wnt to purchase a 50 gallon rubbermaid container to hold the rodi water. My question is i am going to put a 1 inch bulkhead at the bottom for easy water access does it matter if the container is round or does it have to be a flat wall, i wanted to use a rubbermaid trashcan? will it leak through a round one

I think you are going to have problems because if you look at the round water jugs, there is a flat spot where the spicket comes out. I don't know how to get around this.

I use a regular bulkhead on mine, but you can also use a uniseal which would be better. There are many suppliers that carry them - basically anywhere you would order bulkheads or plumbing parts. I have gotten mine from Premium Aquatics, Bulk Reef Supply, and Savko has them as well.

I used an old bulkhead and just used silicone to seal it, worked like a charm.

Regular old bulkheads work fine.... done it many times. Just tighten it up, and it seals perfectly against a round container. No need for silicone.

Agree with mille239. The Rubbermaids are flexible enough so that tightening the bulkhead will make it flatten out. No worries about overtightening like you would with a tank - use some large channel-loc's.

whats the best way to cut the hole in the trashcan for the bulkhead?

Uniseals work great in the rubbermaids. It's like a rubber sleeve that goes through the hole and you jam the pvc through that. The pressure/friction causes the seal.

A hole saw, sized slightly bigger than the neck of the bulkhead.
A forstner bit would also do it, but is overkill.

Just get your drill and use the correct size hole saw bit. Works like a charm.
