I use a fish tank sectioned off for my sump/refugium. Much cheaper and you can build to your own needs.

Octopus skimmers are getting good reviews from what I have been readin lately.

A lot of good options for building sumps, from taking stock tanks and adding a few baffles, to fabricating an entire setup out of acrylic. Kind of depends on how eager and capable you are with DIY projects.

For skimmers, the octopus and MSX brands are getting a lot of well deserved buzz, and I'd surely consider one of those if I were in the market.

im ok at diy but not sure HOW the whole process really works. i got an extra 10 gallon tank sitting around so i might use that as a sump.

I use a 30L sectioned off for skimmer, return, fuge. Return is in the middle.

Also as some other have suggested. I use a Octopus skimmer.
