That is pretty much it. I think I should take them out before I run into Nitrate issues. Shopping for replacement filtration ideas too.

what kind of tank are we talking about here? is it stocked or still going though the cycle?

generally speaking. if your tank is stocked already you would want to take out 5 - 10% of the balls every 2 weeks or so making sure to test every day while you are taking out the balls. if you notice a spike in any of your readings you should wait 2 weeks before taking any more out.

if you are still going though your cycle just take them all out now. you may extend your cycle a little bit but it will save you some time later.

if you have a stocked tank, make sure you do it slowly and for gods sake.. NOT all at once.

do you have a sump? or is it a wet/dry that you are trying to convert to a sump?
