What identifies a dimmable ballast?

relatively few T5 ballasts can be dimmed and there are also different methods/input triggers that can be used to dim them. It should say on the ballast specs. If you're not sure if your ballast is cable of dimming you could look up the manufacturers specs based on model number printed on the ballast.

madadi is right, the 430 and 660 ballasts can only dim VHO lamps.

What makes T5's different than VHO's? The diameter size of course, but what else? They are both fluorescent bulbs, is it the different wattage between the two? Has IceCap tried dimming both? I imagine they have, but it still baffles me. I mean it's very close to apples to apples. Just curious.

Does anyone know exactly how the IceCap 660 is able to dim?

Or rather, is there a manual adjustment or can it be automatic each day? Are any of the controllers able to handle this?

there is one controller that can dimm the 660 with VHO's but it cant do to much more than control ballast from what I read maybe a few pumps!

As far as how the 660 dimms idk! I inquired about this in the IC forum and they would not give me much info other then its more complicated then the 1-10V signal and I believe i asked about DALI but didn't get anymore responses

Right now T5 dimmable in US is basically 2 4' bulbs. I've sent a huge amount of time looking. We are behind rest of world in DC controlled lighting, I suspect this year we will start to see more here. What exactly are you attempting to do with dimming?

I am looking for t5 dimming in 110V as well and found a ballast manufacturer that is 110V and dimms T5 using line current and the GHL is developing a controller for it hopefully close to completion :D

IIRC, Curt at Neptune said that the Apex controller will be able to dim T5's, but I haven't the foggiest how.

Low voltage DC.
