I am looking for recommendations for reputable places for rare fishes. Something long the lines of DFS's Live Aquaria. Thanks.

NY aquatic often has some unique specimens, but I've never bought from them. Seem to have a decent reputation from what I've read. Diver's Den is the gold standard, though.

I am also a big fan of LA Diver's Den (WYSIWYG and extra QT/fish health management). Other places to look include reefhotspot and bluezooaquatics.

I have been to ny aquatic (physically) a number of times and have bought a number of fish from them. Unbeatable prices but I have not had great success with them. I just had my first Divers Den experience, received yesterday. One DOA but everything else is great. No questions asked about crediting for DOA. Plus you get a 14 day guarantee from Divers Den. Can't beat that. Will definitely purchase from them again.

Japan is probably an infeasible source for most of us. But cheap prices for fish that do not "make it" are very expensive fish. Assuming your fish live for long lives, you won't have many openings to fill so you might as well get the highest quality possible so you will not have to rebuy.

A very good lesson that I've learned over the years... I'd rather pay more for a fish one time than look for a bargain with questionable quality that I end up losing.
