Take the live rock out and dip it in freshwater. If you know where the mantis is, squirt some soda water into his/her hole.
Please do not kill your mantis. Someone in your area probably has been looking for one for a few centuries.

I don't want to kill him just get him out of my tank. My wife wants him dead because the fish he killed was one of her favs.

Where did you get your LR from? Some of us are very envious of you...you lucky guy!!! I got 50 lbs of Pohnpei in December and didn't even see a LEG!!! LOL. Please don't be so quick to blame the Mantis...mine lives with 2 Damsels and never shows aggression. Your fish could have invaded his burrow and he was only defending it. Tell you wife how really smart they are. Good luck.

Well yesterday I saw the Jawfish in a different spot (didn't think much about it) But when I got home from work is when I saq the Mantis had the remains of the jawfish.
I think what happened was the Mantis ran the Jawfish out at night and when the Jawfish went back to is old hole to check it out that is when the Mantis got him.
But I have 2 other fish (6line and Blue tang) that sleep in the rock work on their side and I am scared that he will get them when they are sleeping.

They really don't bother larger fish..at least to my knowledge...are there any snails/small hermits int he tank? That's what they eat. We in the hobby hand feed them also...krill, silversides, mysis, squid. They have better eyesight and polar-vision than us and many other remarkable features...truly a very interesting creature. They are more fun that the fish...I have a Hippo too...big sissy he is..lol. I do understand how you feel...but really don't think he will bother the other two. Hopefully you can catch him soon.

Its the perfect critter for a desk top nano tank.....
Watch your coworkers expressions as your mantis destroys a crab right before their eyes.

I found one in my tank, once it speared my sailfin tang. I ended up taking out half of my rock till I found him. He was living in this really large porous rock. I drained off alot of water then just yanked the rock out. Then i dipped the rock in fresh RO and he swam out so fast! Sold him to a local club member the next day. Good luck with finding yours!

Give him away!
If I had an extra tank I would put him in it but I already have 4 tanks and just can't see setting up another.

What trapes did you try? I picked up a mantis trap from the store but I think it won't work.
I was going to try the watter bottle trick next

I used a 20oz water bottle and cut a hole about 1.5inches up the side of the bottle. Rubberbanded some shrimp to a rock and then found the Shrimps home and put the bottle in. I had my hand in the tank the whole time and as soon as the shrimp went in I pulled it out. It took about 20mins with him going in the bottle 3 different times.

I haven't lost a fish yet...just about 4 snails! I want him out...I wont kill it, I'll probably send it to someone for them to keep...I'm just scared as ****! I want him out.
I tried putting a piece of shrimp in a nylon overnight...and it didn't work.
I need help getting him out!!!

Do not buy the X-Terminator Mantis Shrimp Trap. What a piece of garbage. Tried to use it last night, what a waste!

Would you consider shipping one of the mantis that you found? I've been trying to find one for my 10g for ages.
