Are there any Single ended (Mogul) 400 watt bulbs that are designed to run on an HQI ballast?

I am running dual PFO HQI 400 watt ballast with 12k Reeflux bulbs.

After reading the warning on the coralvue site, http://www.coralvue.com/reeflux.html

I'm concerned about using these bulbs with this ballast. I don't have any way to measure UV, and some of my corals are near the top of the water column. I have noticed a reduction in PE and even some discoloration after a few weeks of use.

I prefer the 12k spectrum over the deep blue for this tank.

Any suggestions?

yes, Radium 20K or Ushio 10K both work fine on that ballast.

The PFO HQI ballast was intended for use with European (high lamp current) lamps. It overdrives North American type and other low lamp current lamps (operates lamp past wattage rating). The Radium 400-watt 20,000K lamp is a low lamp current lamp and will be overdriven. The most popular lamps intended for use with a 400-watt HQI ballast is the following:

Aquaconnect 14,000K
AB 10,000K
BLV Nepturion 10,000K
BLV Nepturion 14,000K
BLV Nepturion 20,000K
Ushio Aqualite (non CWA model) 10,000K
Ushio Aqualite (non CWA model) 14,000K
Ushio Aqualite (non CWA model) 20,000K

That's what I was looking for.

Paul, I see that you have a list of bulbs that would go with the PFO HQI ballast, what 20k bulbs would be compatable with the pulse start PFO NON hqi ballast. Would the Radium still work on the pulse ballast.

Not many aquarium lamps are designed for a standard pulse start (ANSI M135/M155) ballast. It will operate all the lamps I listed for the HQI ballast but produce less light output because these lamps will operate at reduced wattage. The 14,000K and 20,000K lamps will appear bluer (more monochromatic). The 10,000K lamps generally appear slightly more yellow/green. The Radium 20,000K 400-watt lamp will operate at the proper wattage on a standard pulse start ballast.
