What would you recommend as the best bulkheads? My custom tank is drilled with 2-1/2" holes for Schedule 40.

IMO, the best bulkhead is one that doesn't leak. Usually thread/thread too for easy removal of plumbing.

Well ... yes it would be the best if it didn't leak but I was looking for a recommended manufacturer.

i've gotten all mine from glass-holes.com ...good customer support, free usps priority shipping on orders over $15, low prices, glass drill bits in the approprate sizes, etc

savko.com also sells them as well as several other online retailers

TBH, I don't know the manufacturer, I just get 'em from my LFS.

If you want a Sch80 that will fit that hole, you'll need the old style Hayward. Most 1 1/2" Sch80 bulkheads will require a 2 5/8" or 2 3/4" hole.

Another vote for Hayward if they will fit.
Very beefy.
I think the 1.5" ones I just bought require a 2 3/8" hole, so the extra 1/8" is probably OK.

according to savko's site, their 1.5" sch40 takes a 2 3/8 - 2 1/2" hole & the sch80 takes a 2 5/8" hole

Some of the various Sch80 bulkheads
From left to right, incl hole sizes for 1 1/2" fittings:
Savko (2 5/8"), Spears (2 3/4"), Banjo polypro (3"), old style Hayward (2 3/8")

FWIW, the Savko fitting shown was one that I extended, they are not normally that long.

HTH,
James

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Sounds like Savco is the way to go.

Alan,
If planning on Sch80, you'll need to ream the holes out to accommodate the Savkos, they won't fit in the 2 1/2" holes. If going with Sch40, should be fine.
