How or what do you guys think about having a small clowntang in a 150gl SPS reef...dimensions will be 36"x36"x27..marineland?

It is a very bad idea. They are very hard to keep in home aquaria. The majority die. If they do live you will need at least 300g and a ton of flow to keep it happy. Then you will be left with an extremely aggressive fish who will attempt to wipe out other tank inhabitants. They are best left in the ocean.

Bad idea. 150 gallon is way too small and a 300 gallon is marginal at best. Very aggressive fish who will kill the remainder of your fish.

agreed, from what I understand they get too large and aggressive as they age. to say that a small specimen (~2" or so) would do fine in that tank for a while is probably true, but it's never wise to buy fish that will certainly outgrow what you've got to keep it in. I'd pass and find a different fish.

dont do it. You will regret it.

I agree with the other posters; beautiful fish but completely unsuitable for normal sized aquariums.

Agreed; while very nice to look at, they are too agressive for most tanks that size (assuming it will not be the only inhabitant).

Just forget that this tang specie exist.

Also forget about volume and consentrate on the diminsions of your tank. The tangs in that family are constant aggressive swimmers. Never stop. Length and flow would be the keys to keeping these fish. As stated a normal 300 would work, but I believe a cube of the same volume would still be a problem. Check out liveaquaria and other sites that sell them. Most state 180 min. If you have a chance to see a healthy/active one in person you will understand why

+1 Tank dimensions are the most important, specifically length.

I've been keeping a Clown Tang now for over a year with no problems with any of my other tangs. All of my tangs were introduced at the same time (Purple, Yellow Belly Hippo and Chevron) and have had no aggression problems or ich problems. Not saying I should have done this, they get a bad reputation sometimes. I agree, most don't survive and I got very lucky.

You have all of those in a 40g breeder ?? That would make 4 tangs in all - Purple, Yellow Belly Hippo and Chevron and the Clown

Thats a lot better than :) My wife always liked the clown tangs but even our LFS steered us clear for our 210. Said if we even liked the other fish we had it was a bad idea and it would quickly outgrow the tank. Last time we were there I noticed it was gone out of their display tank also

+1 I'd have to tang police myself.

For as long as I've had the clown tang it's maybe grown an inch in the year

they are not inordinately quick growers but quite honestly, you have been lucky so far. They are mean fish as they age.
