hey everyone-
I have had my octopus dnw200 for about 3 months. I run it out of sump fed by maxijet 900. I have done the mesh mod and added a gate valve.
Every 4 or 5 days i will wake up to my skimmer cup bubbling over into the cup and onto the floor!!! I now have a 5 gal bucket under it but this causes my topoff water to start pouring in......

I then can open my gate valve up and hear a "glug glug glug" sound and the water drops way down.
I have discovered that the water seems to be "backing up" and going up the riser tube. .... but why?
(does the depth of the tube after the gate valve going in the sump have any effect? it is about 2 " in the sump)

Does anyone know what keeps causing this? I cannot keep a good skimmate going with this happening.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Mine does the same thing every once in awhile. I usually lower the lever in the tube so it is farther down in the neck.

Do you have the outflow under the water or dumping out on the surface?

the outflow is about 2"under the waters surface. Do you think it should be higher?

I would do a couple of things here:
1. If possible, lower the tee, the one closest to the skimmer. Right now there is no way you can lower the water in the skimmer body below that tee.

2. the gray elbow you have on the far right of the picture, drill a hole in there to prevent air locks. I would shoot for a 1/8 in hole.

This should help. Good luck.

ok great! finally something to go on now.
I will lower the tee as far as possible and make an air hole as well.
Thank you , i will get started now.
