Would there be an advantage to changing the Sicce pumps for Eheim 1260 or 1262's? I am a fan of Eheim pumps, they are in use for my Ca reactor feed, and CaRx recirculation as well.
I guess I am just curious about the numbers of air/water/wattage.
Thanks!

Sicce Pinwheel= 32-35 SCFH at about 20W
Eheim Pinwheel 1262 Pinwheel = 1440-1560lph at 90W
Eheim Pinwheel 1260 Pinwheel = 660-720lph at 40W
Now, 1SCFH = 28.3LPH right?
If so, then the Sicce pulls 947.5lph? at 20W! Is my math correct? If so, then there would be no point to an Ehiem driven skimmer would there?

Not sure where you are getting your numbers. Eheim 1260/1262 PW (they are the same in a skimmer config) pull about 900 LPH @ ~ 60W. Yes, the Sicces are very efficient.

I pulled those numbers from the Euro Reef site. Even 900LPH at 60W is not worth the cost of the pump, and the extra cost per month to run...

Looks like ER has a scaled back Ehiem now for the smaller models
Euro-Reef Skimmer Pump Model SPE4 (EHEIM 1260)
Power Consumption w/Air: 40 watts
Air Intake:11-12 lpm / 660-720 lph
Euro-Reef Skimmer Pump Model SPE5 (Eheim 1262)
Power Consumption w/Air: 40 watts
Air Intake: 15 lpm / 90 lph
I question the 40W spec of the SPE5

Even if it did, that would be about 32 scfh at 40W, which would be equal air at 2X the wattage. Not to mention the cost is somewhere north of $200 for the 1262.

There are some nice things about the Eheims. Very quiet, very reliable. They can be run externally. They will also push more head than a Sicce which makes them better suited for skimmers with a tall body.

I agree, Eheims are nice pumps, I have 3 now. :D The reliability and silence were the reasons I brought this up, my Sicce pumps are quiet now, but I went through a period of BUZZING on one pump, and the OTHER one doesn't restart without help when I shut the skimmer down to clean it. Maybe, if the cost wasn't so high for the 1262 I would try it out for comparison, but I would need 2 in order to make it fair as I have to 2S now, and that would cost me to much for what may be very little in return.

2S....very nice! Are you running pinwheels?

The big drawback of the Eheim IMO will be the amount of water they move for the air they produce. Sicce pumps have nearly unbeatable air:water ratio's (about 1-1.5:1), where an Eheim is around 2-2.5:1 IIRC. THe Sicce's can be finicky at times, but they just can't be beat for air:watt and water:air ratios....even the Askoll's can't beat it!!
IIWM, I'd stick with the Sicce's...their water and air is a pretty spot on match for the 2S body when running the PW's :)

Yes, both pumps are running pinwheels. Thanks.
Yup, after seeing the numbers all in one place the performance of the sometimes finicky Sicce's are hard to beat.
I guess it must be the hobby, always wanting MORE....
