I have 30 gallon that I use as my QT, and it has a really old yellow looking, maybe 6 watt flouresent light on it. I want to get some new macros in the next few weeks, but I need to know how to keep them alive over the QT month. I have an old light setup from my 125, linked here:

I also have the reflector, which I could cut down to length. My thought was to get some 18" T12 bulbs and make the reflector appropriately shorter. How many bulbs should I get? I could do a daylight and actinic from UVL, but I was also thinking of getting just one bulb, or two NO bulbs from the hardware store to save some cash.

I would also like to be able to QT soft corals like mushrooms in the same setup.

All advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

well in my experience. i've ordered gracilaria and caulerpa prolifera online and put it straight into my sump and main tank and had no negative effect. my tangs loved it and i still grow it in my sump till this day. but if you really want to get any kind of macro algae i would suggest getting it from your LFS if possible so you can see if it is healthy. as for QT the stuff never have and have not had any problems.
