I have always heard that a trigger is a bad tank mate for a lion and that the reason is because a trigger can kill a lion by attacking it from the bottom of the lion fish. What I had heard is that a trigger is really the only fish that could .... any truth to this?

Triggers can easily, puffers can as well. Eels can kill lionfish also.

Cornet fish also consider the Volitan a great delicacy, they attack the lion from behind.

Yes, triggers can kill lionfish. More commonly they'll just start picking down the spines. Look at the video at the top of this forum.
Large angelfish will also sometimes do this.

large enough anglerfish also are known for killing (eating) lionfish.
