I just got in my 70w K-2 and there was a part on it that wasn't included in the assembly list. It's a cage that was around the light fixture itself. It's currently not on there as I'm not sure what it does. There is no grate over the glass, so it doesn't block the light from shining through. I know it's probably inconsequential, but I'm just curious. Does it just protect the light during shipping, or is there some practical application for it?

The cage is there to protect from the heat. The light fixture gets very hot. It should be fine, dont touch it after it has been running for a while.

So does that mean I need to put it back on?

No its not a necessity. Its there so you don't run your hand into it and SCREAM YAYAYAYAYAY thats HOTTTT. But in the end its up to you.
