QT tank questions

i am considering putting one in the sump area on a shelf i have in my stand. display tank (build thread lil red house) is gonna be a 29, so fish &/or corals won't be too big

* how big a tank should i have??? glasscages has a 1/2-10g tank that is 10 x 20 x 6 tall that would fit in the area i have for one. would that be too short or would it work??

* do i need to do any kind of lighting on it??

* what about flow....any at all?? small pump like a mini-jet 404??

* additional thoughts &/or suggestions??

It may be easier to score a complete 10 gallon setup with tank,stand,hood,light & filter. pretty cheap new or there's usually plenty on craigslist.

Seems to me that with the constant monitoring & water changes, it would be better to not have to work under the stand.
