Is that some sort of brown "fungus" coating them?

Look here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1252294&perpage=25&pagenumber=1
This is the very 1st page of my vitamin C thread. It has developed into a huge thread, split 3x, with many developments.

Looks like they have zoa pox all over them as well. Can you get the rock out of the tank and dip them in something?

It's real bad case of zoa pox. You will need to remove the zoas and treat with furan 2.

Read this link on how to treat (what worked for me was the method right at the bottom of the page)

I have had great sucess combining high doses of VC (around 50ppm) in combination with Furan dips.

very informative.. thank you. i guess i will be trying to frag these polyps =( (as i cant get the rock out). Should i be worried about this spreading? everything else in my tank looks great

It is contagious--I'd do the VC to be sure.

dalston did you use salt or fresh water?

I used tank water to soak them in for 20-30 minutes, then placed back in the tank with VC in the tank. Be sure you have a skimmer on there.

will this spread to SPS as well? or does it just affect zoas?

I used tank water also.

I performed the 'shake and bake method'

I got a sandwich zip lock bag and filled it with tank water, then poured in 1/2 packet of furan 2 powder, closed the bag and shake for a couple of mins. Then I added the zoas and let it sit for 15 mins, quick rinse in RO and place back in the tank.

I did this for 3 days and took a 3 day break. then did the same again only changing the dip time to 10 mins.

After 6 dips total, I let them be and the pox had gone :D

IME only zoanthids were effected, even my palys did not suffer.

Yes, I've heard it only affects zoanthids & not palys. with the higher levels of VC in my frag tank, I only had to dip 2x & within a week, the pox were gone & didn't transfer to any other frags.

That's why I started with vitamin c in the 1st place. I needed something I could treat my entire tank with that wouldn't crash the biological system, since my zoas are growing directly on all the rocks.

i started to use the VC from iherb 1000mg and some of my zoas closed and still wont open and my ph and alk dropped to the floor.
