Have an air leak in my skimmer and wanted to tape it shut. Is this likely to cause chemistry problems / leach sticky stuff into the water / hurt livestock? Thanks.

You might be a redneck if you use duct tape to fix your skimmer. :D

If you can fix it with glue or glue another piece of plastic over the leak, it might last longer.

If not,IMHO, I do not see any problems with using duct tape and the chemistry of your water. I have used it as a temporary fix myself. I guess that makes me a redneck.

I agree.

It is an air leak in, or out? I'd be surprised if it can keep an air out leak plugged long if there is much pressure. But I doubt it will hurt anything if the tape is not actually in the water.

In my 55 I had a hob skimmer and used duct tape to keep salt spray from hitting my lights. It fell in many times...and stayed there with no problems.

thanks for replies. it's a leak caused by the bottom of the air pump not being flush with it's top (bottom is removable). so i taped just to keep everything flush. at one point i noticed microbubbles coming from there.

Randy does your answer change if the tape is submerged?

Yeah I use duct tape to keep my rocks in place.
