I want to make home made sump with pail with strainer to trickle through nylon scrub pads for bio saw this on u tube with some live rock skimmer then pump back to main tank . Whats the real name for this ost LFS run these. What is size this sump should be. I have an old 20 gal fish tank no leaks or should I use wall mart storage tub ?

The bigger the better for a sump. What ever size you have room for. You need a screen (filter media) bubble trap and a return chamber.

You mean i was going to put some filter media in container that trickles water through . What size is sugested minimum maximum what I mean by this how big will do the job as far as minimum and how big is large enough with out over doing it.? Hope I made this simple.

I would say it all depends on what your trying to accomplish. Things to take into consideration are Nitrates, Phosphates, stocking loads, total volume of water, the need to breathe, Protein Skimming, water changes, feeding habits, and the amount of liverock that your planning to keep in the system to name a few.
