Refuguim lights down time

I have noticed when the lights come on my fan caulerpa has a pale tip where it appears it has been growing quickly. A while with the lights on and it greens up nicely. I think down time is important. Some say six hours a day is all that's necessary.

My question is, is two lots of three hours even better?
