I have been out of the hobby awhile and getting ready to setup a new 120 gal dual overflow All Glass tank. The tank will be an SPS dominate tank. I have picked out my lighting, skimmer and reactor, just need advice on the best submersible return pump?

Thanks,
Ed

best is a subjective word depending on determining factors / what is important to you.....

* best for wattage used
* best for head loss
* best for quietness
* best for reliablility
* best for low price

etc etc etc

i'd say except for the last bullet, can't go wrong w/ an eheim

Eheim 1262 is what I was thinking just not sure when I split it to the two returns I will get the flow I am looking for. Other wise it fits the 5 qualities you mentioned.

1262 is what I would pick even on a bigger tank. My buddy runs one on a 180G and its great.

run it as high as possible w/ as large a pipe as possible & then branch it for the 2 returns

i am doing (2) returns on my 29 build w/ a mag3 as the pump....running 1.5 all the the way to the tank edge, t-fitting w/ 1.5->3/4 reducers & into the tank. hopefully that will help minimize some of the head loss for mine

I use a mag 9.5 on my 46gal with ball valve all 3/4 tubeing with a 1/2 sea swirl. Happy fish Happy corals = Happy reefer

I dumped my mag 9.5 and bought a quiet one (less power consumption). I use it for my chiller, and it's worked flawlessy.

i use a mag 12 on my 120 gl i have it spilt into a T that each one is split into 2 loc-line at the very end ...........so it gives me 4 return outlets had the pump running for over13months no problems

I always have to recommend Mag-drive just because of the longevity. They've been running one at the Toledo Zoo for over a decade non-stop (no cleaning or maintenance). I've never really had any major problems with pumps, but 10 years non-stop is not something you see everyday - especially in this hobby.

I used two Mag Drives on my old tank, one on the returns and one on the closed loop. Really reliable but kind of loud and run warm. Still looking at the Eheim.
