Im looking for a good all around camera for family pictures, hunting pictures, and of course reef pictures...

Canon Rebel T1i $900
15 megapixel, live view, Full HD movies 1920 x 1080 pixels, 3" lcd, 18-55mm lens

Nikon D90 $1,000
12 megapixel, live view, HD movies 1280 x 720 pixels, 3" lcd, 18-55mm lens kit

Im still a newbe with DSLR and SLR cameras...

Im leanning towards the Canon, what do you guys think?

Do you have a chance to try them both out before you buy? The Canon has essentially the same body as the XSi. Many people (me included) found the body shape awkward to hold for long periods of time. The D90 (which I ended up buying) felt much better in my hands. YMMW but, especially if you have big hands, the D90 might be more comfortable.

Beyond that, they are both excellent cameras which will give you excellent results. But, IMO, you shouldn't buy a dSLR for Live View and Video. If you want the camera mainly for video, a regular HD video camera will give you much better results. And 15 vs 12 megapixels won't make much difference.

What does YMMW means?

I have small hands, would the canon be easier for me to carry?

THX for your reply...

Go to a store and try it out. Nobody can answer what your personal tastes are going to be for you.

YMMW = Your Mileage May Vary. In other words, just because I didn't like the feel of the XSi doesn't that you won't like. As Titus says - go to the store and try them out.

I could have suggested it was 'Your Mileage May Really Vary' since the W is two V's joined together.

I like German idea (I'm not German but my mother is fluent in German so maybe it rubbed off on me).

Now, back to cameras and reefs :)

Can't go wrong with either.

Personally. I own a D90 with a 105mm Nikkor VR Macro Lens and love it.

Never used a canon, don't think I ever will :P

I own a few of their digital cameras, but not the DSLR's.

So either camera would work for me?

I already tried the Nikon D90 at best buy and it felt large.

Now the Canon I havet seen it at the stores yet.

I will probably get then which ever one I can get at Costco for a decent price.

The only problem is that the Nikon D90 that costco sells comes in a kit with and extra lens and it goes for around $1,200
