View Full Version : Is this a photosynthetic gorgonian

I picked up this Gorgonian last week. Seller said he thinks it is photosynthetic. I sure hope so because it is very nice color and I would hate to loose it. Here are some pictures. If anyone has seen one like this before and has any information on it please let me know.

It does look like some other photosynthetic gorgs I have seen. If it is I'm jealous of you for finding such a nice colony.

in not sure on the species, but judging by the color i would say its non-photosynthetic..bright gorgonians are usually filter feeders

I have seen similar photosynthetic gorgonians.

Wow! Nice colony. I would agree with Legendland. Usually the red and yellow colored gorgs are nonphoto. The polyps appear white also which could indicate no Zooxanthellae but they could also be bleached from the stress of shipping. Watch the polyps to see if they start to turn tan. If they do than you have a photosynthetic.
