my clownfish has been biting off the tips of the elongated xenia. Ive never seen or heard of this before but is it normal? One of two things may happen:

-either my xenia are going to propagate all over the tank since the heads are floating around or

-the xenia may eventually die

any suggestions on what to do?

i think the xenia are just in his way or by his turf. just like if u put a rock or a frag plug next to his anemone, he will knock it of. than u end up putting it somewhere else.
u can try to move the xenia and see wat happen.

you'll have xenia growing everywhere. You gotta really suck at marine to be able to kill xenia. Just watch for bits of xenia growing everywhere. I mean everywhere

Also it looks like the clownfish is making a home in the xenia, (I just put a rock with 10-15 stalks in on tuesday) so I dont quite understand why he is ripping the heads off

Yea the heads will float round till they get stuck in a rock or something then start growing from there. Well when my clowns started hosting their nem they sucked on the tentacles a bit, its not uncommon for some to bite the tips right off. He's probably found his new home, maroons are known for being particularly rough, though it should subside after he's settled in
