Do clams color up once they get happy the way corals do? I just bought a nice deresa at a good price but he looks a little brown. Will he color up over time?

Alot depends on type of lighting, i.e. bulb type, intensity, ballasts, etc. Clams can be like corals, they'll look different in different tanks. A lot of times, folks will buy WYSIWYG clams on-line, and when they get them and put them in their tanks, they don't look like the vendors pics.
I've found that angle of view has alot to do with how well the clam looks.
I've never seen a bleached clam.

..yes, I've noticed that a top down look is a lot different than the side view

My deresa has colored up considerably. But, it was in a tank with only natural sunlight for 5-6 months before I got it. When I first added it to my tank, it was rather brown looking, especially from the side. But, in the last couple of months, it is most definitely getting more colorful.
