Having a custom cherry stand built and not sure what to go with, I want the stand to look brand new 5+ years from now even with a little water spashed on it hear and there. Have been thinking about spar urethane, and epoxy mostly any one used these?

boiled linseed oil and laquer, 50% each mixed well and applied by a soft bristle brush.

Hmm my last stand was done with straight laquer and didnt hold up well at all, does the oil make a big difference? Anybody else have any ideas?

I have no experience with it on stands - but I built a couple of kayaks using a non-blushing epoxy. It will absolutely stand up to salt water. I have also built some furniture used outdoors and in chlorinated pool applications. Been in place for 8 years and still looking great.

Epoxy needs to be protected from UV or it will yellow over time. I coat with Epiphanes varnish. This is Raka epoxy over - Western Red Cedar, Mahogany, Ash, Cypress.....come to think of it....there is a little Cherry in there too.

Definitely go with a non-blushing hardener. It makes further finishing much easier.

I finished my stand and canopy 4 months ago with this:

It rubbed on real nice with cheese cloth over the stain, I put two coats and didnt have to sand it in between coats of sealant. My sump has had a few overflows onto the wood a few times and wipes right up.... Beads water nicely.... I'm sold on this poly.

WOW that kayak is beautiful awesome job. Any tips on working with the epoxy? also do you think a uv blocker would be needed?
