I finally got the usb connection to work by reloading the driver for the third time, now when linked to pc it says 2 of the 3 power bars are not functioning and one of the power bars is switching on and off. When pc disconnected every thing works fine. It's driving me crazy any ideas

Try it with another PC or Laptop. Make sure on the second one that you install the Drivers before you plug in the USB interface.
If that works out then the problem is with the Drivers on your orginal PC, it most likely installed some default windows drivers rather than the ones on the disk. In that case you will need to manually remove the installed driver and thats is not as easy as it may sound because windows hates to change USB drivers.

RobbyG I got it to connect each time now, but when it connects 2 powers bars freak out and it says their not connected. Also when I plug the usb in my computer under ports shows silicon labs cp210x usb to uart bridge, does that show the right driver in place? When computer disconnects every thing seems to work fine.

You may want to try to get in touch with Aquatronica at their new support forum.
To be honest, the Power Bars freaking out sounds like it could be a potential ground loop issue. Not 100% sure tho.

I much prefer the RS323 version with a USB adaptor.
I have collected 4 of them in case my old faithful clocks out on me.
IMO the new USB interface is very finicky. I have 2 and both are back in there box awaiting a resolve.
I suppose one day i will have to get them out and find out how to get them to work as well as the RS323 version

It is, but I don't think they sell it any more. Its what I have, as well, and I've not had any problems with it once I found a USB adapter that worked with it. Serial to USB seems to be a bit tricky either way.

I think I figured it out. When I shut off outlet b on power bar 1 every thing seems fine, as soon as I turn on that out to power on the computer disconnects with an error on computer not responding.

I had cooling fans but I disconnected the fan plug and it still happpened. I was thinking the same thing that something was wrong with the fan unit on that outlet

I'm bad the controller on the cooling fans was causing the problem not the bar. I retested it on other outlets and it caused the same problem. So you can't use variable speed fans with it's own speed controller.
