Well, I got a 180 gallon glass tank, stand, and lighting fixture yesterday night from Mark!! I'd like to thank Mark, without him this thread would have never existed. Thanks again Mark!! Here is a picture of the tank. Will post more pictures later today.

Off to a good start. Try to find some black tubing and an aqualifter pump for that CPR overflow. If you use clear tubing algae will grow and clog it up.

The ballasts are electronic remote ballasts. The light fixture brand is Blue Ocean.

Here is my filtration. The tank is a 180 gallon with a 55 gallon fuge making a total volume of 235 gallons. I have 300 lb of live rock total in the system and will add 30 more lb of live rock soon making it a total of 330 lb. I'm also going to have 1.5-2 inches of sand in the DT which makes 54-73 lb of sand and 1/2 of the 55 gallon is going to be full of chaeto. :D

sweet! so hopefully you wont have a major cycle with the live rock already being completely live and from someone that sounds like it will work really well! just keep in mind with all that live rock you wil prob, be lucky to have like 170 or so of total water volume.

Its plenty flow. lol Its gana be a mixed reef, so I don't need a ton of flow. Each MJ 1200 puts out 2.1k+ gph plus I have the return pump from the sump.

remember take it slow!!!! if you stock too fast (which your doing : / ) it will cause WAY too many problems that you just dont want, i would say wait another 3 weeks to a month b4 adding another fish. but the tank looks REALLY nice! :)

Yeah, I know. I only have 3 smallish fish in there and the fish I got from the LFS are in QT and won't be going in for a while. The live rock was from a local who had it for years, so I don't think it should really cycle alot. For corals I only have a few softies which should be perfectly fine. Thanks!! :D

bump for a tank which i know will be sik. what fish do u want and if u dont mind me asking how does a 15 yr old pay for this?
I'm not sure what the stock list will be because I'm always changing it and never stick to it. lol Saving, birthdays, Christmas, and being a good kid. :D You know how lots of kids these days have xbox, psp, ps3, xbox360, ect, ect. Well, I don't have any of that kind of stuff. If I had to choose my tanks vs xbox, psp, ps3, xbox360, ect, ect I'd pick my tanks all the way!

Ok so I was looking back through your thread.. I realized you just put water in on 4/11 it looks like so I'm curious what your water parameters are looking like everything seems to be doing really well.. Also all the frags I got from you are doing great.. Are you dosing anything to the tank? Also when your ready I might have a few frags for you...

Not sure, never tested the water to tell you the truth. lol I got the LR from a local reefer who had his tank set up for years, so, there was no die off at all. So, I doubt it cycled. Nope, not dosing anything, just do daily top offs with RO/DI water. Sweet! I'd love a few frags!

The tank is looking good...

Your light looks remarkably like the Current USA system I am using on our 180G. Love that fixture.

If I were you, I would invest in a good set of water test kits (CA, KH, MG, PO4) before buying any more livestock. You really should monitor your water conditions, because if they go south on you, you risk losing everything, and it can happen very fast if you have no warning...

How often are you doing water changes?

Congratulations on some great looking specimens.

Yeah, I'm thinking about putting solar tubes over the tank with T-5s for supplementing.

I could check my lvls at the LFS for free. :)

For now I'm doing little water changes every week, 10% or so every week, and I'm thinking about doing 90 gallon water changes once a month instead of a little every week. Whats better? 10% every week or 50%(90 gallons) once a month?

Thanks!!

It is better to do small water changes more often - a lot of trace elements are used up fairly fast so the tank could be depleted of these for several weeks if you only change once a month. The water we be more stable and less likely to shock the system with more small changes. I end up doing 4x 6gallon changes each week and everything seems fairly stable. I have my system plumbed to auto fill a bucket with DI, add salt, let mix, purge 6 gal to drain and refill. i dont have to spend much time ~ 5 minutes to do a water change.

Moses,

The tank is looking really nice! I love the black shoulder tang and that gorg is killer, probably on of the nicest I have seen.

What do you have in there as far as snails and hermits? I noticed the cucumber, lettuce nudy, and the 2 nassarius. For that size tank it usually take a pretty decent clean up crew. I am sure the tangs are lovin the algae! They will be nice and healthy I am sure.

Nice job!

Hermits will only attack your snails when their is nothing else to eat in the tank. You should get some red or blue leg drawf hermits crabs. Also get some empty shell and throw in the tank. They will also attack the snails for the shell once the start getting bigger. I have lots of snails and hermits in my tank. And the only attack for the shells; so I picked you some extra from the LFS and theproblem is fixed.

They are doin' good. Do small water changes ever week and I'm going to bump it up. :)

Do small water changes every week, dose cal and alk every few days, dose Iodine once a week, top off with RO/DI water as needed, feed the tank 4 times a day, clean the glass daily(I like it when the glass is super duper clean. :) ) and I think that's it. I haven't tested in a bit, but last time I did, all parameters were good. I'm going to test the water this week. :) Everything is doing very well, only have a few sticks and they are doing OK, but everyone els(LPS, softies, leathers) are doing very well, especially the gorgonians! They are growing super fast!!

1 Fridmani Pseudochromis
2 Fire Fish (pair)
4 Zebra Gobies (2 pairs, 2 males and 2 females)
5 Blue-Green Chromis

Total is 24 fish, but most of them stay small. The only large fish I have is the Niger Trigger, Yellow Tang, and Brown-Eared Surgeonfish.

I've never really seen her eat frozen foods and I've only tried spot feeding her a few times when I first got her. But shes got plenty of pods in the DT and shes fat and happy, so there is no need to spot feed her. :)

Her name is: Ashley Gellar

You should also check out Mindi Smith and Hilary Fisher. ;)

Read your thread from start to finish. You have an very nice tank with some very nice fishes. Just keep on eye on the parameters-either buy some test kits or at least have your main parameters tested by your LFS on a reular basis.

A very nice tank anyhow. Those 1000w of light wil cost a bucketload of $'s each month! But your a lucky young lad to get al this equipment. :)

Thanks!! :D Well, I started out when I was 12 and a half years old, was slowly upgrading to a 28 gallon, trading and buy expensive corals and once they grew out, I fragged and sold and was slowly saving up, and now, at last, I had enough money and found a super sweet deal for the 180 gallon. :D Also, I spent all my Christmas and birthday money on the tanks. :p

Do you have your Xenia isolated on a separate rock? If not, I strongly recommend that you do. It will spread and cover your entire aquascape if not kept away from adjoining live rock. I speak from experience.

The tank is coming along, looking good, and I know you're glad to be getting HA under control. Your tangs need to get busy! ;)

Do you have your Xenia isolated on a separate rock? If not, I strongly recommend that you do. It will spread and cover your entire aquascape if not kept away from adjoining live rock. I speak from experience.

The tank is coming along, looking good, and I know you're glad to be getting HA under control. Your tangs need to get busy! ;)

Not 100%, there is a bit of the xenia rock thats touching the rest of the rock work. I'll keep an eye on them to make sure they don't spread to other rocks. :) Thanks for the heads up! :)

Thanks!! Yeah... the Sea Hare and the Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus striatus) have been the biggest help toward getting rid of the hair algae so far. :)

I have another update! I added: acans, chalice, encrusting monti, and a few other things. I also added a 5.7 inch Engineer Goby today! He was in my 28 gallon since I got him and I have been try to catch him for the last week. I got him when he was only 2 inches or so.
