I think I remember reading awhile ago that LiveAquaria had a bandit pair in qt. Were they put up for sale and I missed it? I do not remember seeing these fish posted if they ever were. If they were posted do you happen to have the picture?

I am interested to know any information you can give about the pair.

regina574,

Thank you for your patience while we check on the Bandit Angels that were offered through our Diver’s Den selection. The pair went fast after being added to our Diver’s Den site and have already been delivered to the lucky customer who purchased them. We apologize that we no longer have a photograph of the pair.

Can you send the sold link, or the RSS when the fish were sold? Pictures?

I was really trying to get these fish, and I never saw them posted. And I rarely miss much from the DD

I thought it was odd that there was no thread or picture posted of these fish. What day were they posted? Darn, I really wanted to see the pic

The idea definately popped up in my mind a few times... They would have had to stay in a 55 until the middle/end of July, so I probably wouldn't have gotten them.
I just really wanted to see a picture of the pair.

Greetings,

Thank you for your patience. I would like to apologize for the delay in responding as I was waiting to hear back from Dr. Sanjay Joshi at Penn State University to allow me to provide this information here on RC. These fish were sold with no images or I would be more than happy to post them in this thread.

The Bandit Angelfish Pair are now fully settled into their new home at Penn State. The fish are prominently displayed in the 550 gallon SPS dominated reef aquarium which resides in the HUB-Robeson student union building. Every day around 10,000 Penn State students walk by the aquarium, and this is one of the official stop for the students, and campus tour groups. The University gives several tours a month to elementary and middle school classes, and also host around 20 - 30 different college classes / labs here at the Aquarium per semester which is a great hands on teaching tool. The college classes range from Geo Sciences, Biology, and Oceanography, to Chemistry, Ichthyology, and Marine Ecology.

Their mission is to educate and increase the awareness and understanding of coral reefs, bring the beauty of coral reefs to central Pennsylvania, and hopefully excite future generations of students to do research on coral reefs and to better understand the ecology of this special ecosystem.

I am hoping Sanjay will post some pictures of the pair in the coming weeks here in this thread, and I apologize once again for the inconvenience.

michael_cb_125,

Thank you for your post. We apologize that we currently do not have any Bandit Angelfish in quarantine. However, we are receiving new stock daily and we still recommend signing up for our email alert (http://www.liveaquaria.com/DiversDen/DDemailSignUp_form.cfm) or RSS (http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/feed/ddfeed.xml) feed so you can be notified when any new specimens are added to our Diver’s Den (http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/index.cfm) selection.

I would like to thank everyone for your wonderful comments and support. We will continue to work diligently to try and obtain some more pairs of these spectacular fish, as well as numerous other not so common fishes.

cccapt,
Thank you as well for posting the picture of the Bandit Angelfish pair in the Penn State aquarium!

Wow, Sanjay's camera is obviously way better than mine. I knew I should have grabbed it when he wasn't looking. :)

dustinP,
These fish are protogynous hermaphrodites, starting off life as females, where the largest, most dominant fish in the group or harem develops into a male. There is no sexual dimorphism with this species as far as I know; meaning males and females are identical in appearance.

The cheek spine on large male Bandit Angelfish are oftentimes more elongated than of smaller female fish which is similar to the Regal Angelfish- Pygoplites diacanthus. I personally think this characteristic is not a sure proof way to determine the gender of Apolemichthys arcuatus, as the length and shape of the cheek spine has more to do with the physical size and age of the fish rather than it's gender.

Occasionally we have the opportunity to purchase collected pairs of these incredible fish, and such was the case with the pair now in the Penn State Aquarium. Having handled quite a few Apolemichthys arcuatus over the years, in the confines of 4' or 6' long quarantine aquarium, two males will immediately start to battle and inflict some damage to one another rather quickly. These fish were pretty social to one another in the confines of our aquariums during the quarantine and conditioning period while in our care.

Regards,
