I am looking at getting an new skimmer to sit in the sump and if I do I would like to patch the hole that my current skimmer is using for the return to the sump. I want to run a higher water level once the external skimmer is removed. Would I need to get some acrylic, cut a piece to cover the hole, and bond it in place or will glass and silicone be sufficient? Any advice on proceeding is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

just cut a square of acrylic bigger than the hole and use some weldon 3 or 4 to seal it to the wall, all done.

edit: i'd put the patch on the inside of the sump just to be safe, not that it makes too much of a difference.

you can do it the way mentioned above or put a uniseal in there with a ball valve now you got a drain for water changes:) or just cap it.....

Best option on a running sump is to install a bulkhead and seal it.

Glueing to a 'wet' piece of acrylic is just asking for crazing.

Also, if the patch is vertical, your only options are weldon 16 ( ugly ) or weldon 40/42.
