I thought I heard a few years ago that bubble tips and Manjano anemones (pests) are the same species or a subspecies or something.

Anyone ever heard this or am I making it up?

I know they are both anemones but I think I heard somewhere that they are the same species of anemones. Ever notice the bubble tips on both?

No, BTAs are Entacmaea quadricolor; Majanos are Anemonia majano

Different species and genus entirely. Its like a leopard and cheetah both have spots but are different cats

Classification is a funny thing. I have a weird experience that I have only a few Manjanos in my reef tank but one is getting big. Something like twice the size of a normal Manjano. If you look at a picture of juvenile bubble tips they look alot like manjanos. It is not near anything so I am leaving it alone to see what happens.

See Julian Sprung's invertebrates book on bubbletips and you will see what I mean.

I don't doubt you, but they are in a completely separate genus. Could be a different hitchhiker

I have to take a picture of this thing and post it. It looked like a manjano two months ago now it doesn't.

It is kind of hard to tell scale from this picture but you can kind of compare my big manjano to my clownfish (adult Tomato clown).
